A Sudden Trip to Mandaragiri Hills
Some of the best experiences in life come unplanned. One such adventure unfolded on a Sunday morning when we decided to embark on a sudden bike trip to Mandaragiri Hills, situated about 63 km from Bengaluru in Tumkur District. The journey itself was nothing short of an adventure, with the crisp morning air adding to the thrill of the ride.
The Journey: A Ride Through the Morning Bliss
The ride itself felt like an adventure. The crisp morning air brushed against our faces, awakening every sense. The roads stretched endlessly before us, and with every turn, the anticipation grew stronger. We stopped at a roadside tea stall, where my friends pamperred themselves in a warm cup of tea. Being someone who isn’t fond of tea, I simply stood there, soaking in the atmosphere and watching the world wake up.It was around 5:30 AM when the sun finally peeked through the horizon. As we rode, the sky painted a masterpiece. On one side, hues of deep blue and pink lingered, while behind us, the sun emerged with a fiery glow of orange and red. Looking back, I felt like I was riding away from a mystical gateway, a portal to another world where light opened the doors to endless possibilities.
Arrival at Mandaragiri: A Moment of Stillness
Inside the temple, we found a grand Buddha statue surrounded by numerous smaller statues of devotees. The artwork was mesmerizing, detailed, and full of stories. We sat on the temple steps, chatting about everything and nothing😂,the passing train in the distance, a drone playfully chasing us in the sky, and the joy of being in a place so untouched by the chaos of everyday life.
A Fairytale Lake and the Path to Terabithia
We then looked to the other side of the hill, where a misted lake awaited us. Mist hovered over the water, making the entire scene look like something out of a fantasy novel. For a fleeting moment, I felt I had stepped into the world of Bridge to Terabithia, a hidden realm beyond reality. Standing there, staring at the mist-covered lake, I imagined myself diving in and swimming to a world where time slowed down. Not far from the lake, we spotted a lone tree standing tall, almost like a guardian of the landscape, silently witnessing the world unfold in all directions. Nearby, a small rock bench invited us to sit and absorb the beauty around us. The bench was cool against my skin, grounding me in the present moment, yet my mind wandered into dreams of escaping to an unseen paradise.
From there we followed a straight mud road that ran parallel to the lake. On one side, coconut trees swayed lazily, while on the other, the lake reflected the morning sun. While walking I could see ducks swimming in group through the water. For a moment I wish I could be one of them. The peaceful moment was briefly interrupted when a local man attempted to take a bribe from us, claiming to be the "watcher" of the place. He was clearly lying, and we weren’t foolish enough to fall for it. We brushed it off and continued our walk back, cherishing the last moments of our little adventure.Hopping back on our bikes, we rode toward Bengaluru. Along the way, we stopped for breakfast at 9:30 AM. The food was average, and I couldn’t eat much, as I’ve been unfamiliar to eating rice in the morning for the past few months. Nevertheless, the ride back was filled with the quiet satisfaction of a day well spent. Once home, I took a long, relaxing bath and wrapped myself under a warm blanket, lost in dreams of my own Terabithia.
Sometimes, all we need is a spontaneous trip, a moment to breathe, and a reminder of how magical the world can be when we least expect it.
